Non-destructive Testing
Used in neurosurgery, this is part of a prism video camera for x-ray imaging during surgery preparation. We manufacture this part in Riedlingen, Germany, and have been working with our customer since 2003.
Material Selection
For this part we use EN AC-42000-T6 aluminium alloy. A T6 heat treatment was implemented to optimise the mechanical properties of the aluminium alloy.
Manufacturing Processes
We use our standard investment casting process for this part. The part is geometrically demanding and has extremely tight surface finish and visual inspection requirements due to end-user aesthetics. We work from the customer’s designs to achieve this.
Quality Control
The part undergoes spectral analysis, hardness testing, fluorescent penetrant inspection and visual inspection, all to ensure premium quality.
Impact
For this part, investment casting is the best manufacturing process in terms of cost and quality. Milling from solid material is far more cost intensive and die-casting is out of the question due to the precision required for the geometry. The wall thickness also rules out sand casting. Therefore, we are also able to offer the customer the most cost-effective solution for this component.
